Ian was born into a musical family on April 11th 1967, in Sefton, Merseyside (or Lancashire as it was then). He performed in front of an audience for the first time at the age of seven, with his father, an accomplished singer and Jazz pianist.
At the age of eleven, he became a child soprano with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Subsequent Philharmonic Hall concerts were broadcast live on BBC Radio3 including: Carl Orff's 'Carmina Burana' and Benjamin Britten's 'Spring Symphony'
